In my humble opinion, the truth is, that as the Kabbalah teaches, God is here, yet the 3D video game he created i.e. planet earth called olam (which means hidden, as it hides God) which is similar to the big-bang theory, namely, that the light (see picture) from the initial universe, which was bathed in light, and energy, is actually visible but not to the human eye; similarly God is visible but not to our eyes – when the Messiah comes, “Eye to Eye You Will See God!” Hence the ultimate reason for darkness is so we should realize that we are in truth the very light, and with this newfound wisdom we begin to permeate the world, namely fellowman, in a brighter, more peaceful, loving, kind way!
