The neighbors gather to help.

“They’re standing on the porch now.”

“So what will you do?”

“I’ve decided to give them the living room. Maybe then they’ll appreciate my generosity.”

“I know. If I give them the kitchen, perhaps they’ll stop asking for the rest of the house.”

“They’re saying they want the whole house.”

“Yes, but surely once they get the dining room, they’ll become satisfied.”

Finally one asks, “Did the people demanding your house ever say they only wanted the front yard?”

“No.”

“So why do you think giving away pieces of your home will change what they’ve been saying all along?”
