“Know they enemy”
“Radical Islam” is a broad term, and it’s important to distinguish between mainstream Islam and extremist movements.
Extremist Islamist groups (such as Islamic State and Al-Qaeda) typically emphasize values and beliefs such as:
Absolute submission to their interpretation of God’s law.
Establishment of an Islamic state or caliphate governed by their understanding of Sharia.
Loyalty to their religious community above national or ethnic identities.
Religious exclusivism—the belief that their interpretation is the only legitimate one.
Jihad, which they often interpret as including armed struggle against perceived enemies.
Rejection of secular governance and many modern political institutions.
Strict social and moral codes.
Glorification of martyrdom in pursuit of their cause.
However, many Muslims and Islamic scholars strongly reject these interpretations and argue that such groups distort Islamic teachings. Mainstream Muslims generally emphasize values such as:
Worship of God.
Charity (zakat).
Compassion and mercy.
Family and community.
Justice.
Prayer and moral conduct
