1. The Mind — Right vs. Wrong
2. The Heart — Pleasure vs. Pain
3. The Liver — Pride vs. Shame
To the extent that you understand what is truly right versus wrong; what is long-term gain versus instinctive, immediate gratification; what brings real satisfaction and earned pride versus a fleeting biochemical reaction—you begin to live with clarity.
You begin to recognize what is worth sacrificing for: overcoming laziness, resisting impulse, and striving toward higher goals and ethical living.
And you begin to understand what true pride is—being proud not of external applause, but of overcoming your instincts, your inertia, and your lower tendencies in pursuit of something greater.
In contrast, there is the temporary applause of others—often from those whose lives may not reflect higher values, whose words do not come from a refined or elevated place.
And then there is shame—whether imposed by others or generated within—that can trap a person and hold them back. This, too, must be overcome.
How?
By realizing that we are part of a Divine story. We are not the Author—we are participants. And we must not pretend to be G-d.
