“ומשלוח מנות איש לרעהו ומתנות לאביונים”

On Purim, our Sages teach that there is no greater and more elevated joy than bringing simcha to the hearts of the poor. The Rambam writes that one should increase gifts to the needy even more than one increases one’s own festive meal, for there is no greater glory than gladdening the hearts of the downtrodden, the orphan, the widow, and the righteous poor.

In the holy city of Tzfat, עיר הקודש, there are many families who quietly struggle. They live with dignity and faith, yet they lack the means to celebrate Purim properly.

To give Matanos L’Evyonim to such families is a special zechus. Supporting righteous and G-d-fearing individuals fulfills the mitzvah in its most beautiful form — ensuring that the joy of Purim reaches homes of sincerity, modesty, and emunah.
