Addiction as well as neurotic, are innate predilections.

Unless you understand that you as every single religion and philosophy say are a composite of two opposing realities: the body which as Jewish mysticism  calls an animal, for like all animals it seeks whatever instinctively and instantaneously with no future thinking will feel pleasurable, and conversely such behaviour is modified only by fear of what will be painful.

Whereas our mind conversely is only about the long term effects.

Now to the extent that we feel entitled to get our way ( which ironically is often based on victimization, for the person in a healthy society understands they must earn their way) coupled with a overblown ego ( which is why say a dictator feels entitled to kill those who oppose him) is the extent of our level of addictiveness.

Conversely, to the extent that we despise our animal whose instincts can be worse than a mosquito ( for from ego/  anger we turn sadistic) then we allow our soul/ mind.
