We all are either in one of three categories:
The builder – the builder is a person who gives.
The taker, well as it sounds, the taker is a person who doesn’t give, rather takes – Most people are in fact takers – we are born with no option but to become a taker – we are dependent – the fact is, we don’t wish to be takers. We all wish to be independent! However, even when we are independent we are still a taker, for unless you are being altruistic, giving only for a higher cause, either motivated by conviction or compassion, everything you do is only for yourself. A perfect example of this is a company – a company may literally create medicines that are to save the world, however, if the objective is not saving the world, rather profit, that same company may withhold medicines, if it is in their financial gain. So the difference between a giver and a taker is based on motivation.
And finally there are the destroyers – this is fascinating, for what would cause someone to turn into a hitler, a terrorist?! and the more subtle, but no less catastrophic destroyers like bullies and radicals that shame, coerce and bully people into submission, robbing them of happiness and joy – well, that’s it! – those who themselves were robbed of their happiness and joy, ultimately feel resentful – this resentment keeps on building until they resent all happiness and joy! – this leaves them with only one alternative – if they can only make the whole world miserable it will alleviate some of their misery – as our sages teach, “collective misery cuts my misery in half!” – it doesn’t make me feel like a loser.
