0 responses to “As mentioned, it would seem very odd that the foundational comment to a Jew in the most spiritual holy book ever (the Bible) is “leave” – wouldn’t it be some kind of great truth?! – but that is actually the greatest truth that exists! – you see, Abraham is commanded merely to exchange one country for another – in reality, though Israel is called the holy-land it is just another land – it is Abraham and the Jewish people who imbue it with holiness – that being the case, why not imbue holiness where he was? – and this is the very obtuse subtle but all encompassing truth – you see, that’s the point, if you are doing things on your terms, even holy things, as we all know, great spiritual people have done truly selfish things – The irony is, not that they were charlatans – they really were spiritual – but the aim of spirituality, obviously is a better person – the destiny of betterness is not towards your desire – even spiritual – but leave all your desires! – This is a major point the Rebbe emphasizes (which frankly I haven’t seen emphasized anywhere else – which isn’t saying too much, but still) “leave” is being said to Abraham – He wasn’t exactly on the beach – he had amazing incredible acts of kindness and goodness to him – but as long as you are defining God on your terms, you are still prone to the great source of evil – ego”
