Part of desire, is the flipside of pleasure namely pain – so because I hate pain, I am driven to never touch a hot-stove – all animals automatically are programmed (and can be trained through pain vs. pleasure – humans too, if they do not wake up, will lead their lives exclusively based on pain and pleasure) What is unique in humans that animals don’t have, is pride and shame – this is because we are social creatures, hence we seek not to be shamed (for this would prevent us from achieving love – this is why those who feel shame – the Ababs for example, carry a four thousand year inferiority complex – hence they also lack pride – have no qualms about being evil (as all people who carry shame – if they think they won’t be put into pain, for pain as mentioned is an inhibitor) Ultimately because pride and shame relate to an instinct – (the desire to be loved) therefore what we must understand is, that they are merely self-serving – the only Divine guide, is to let go of your desire for pleasure, let go of your desire to have pain, let go of your desire for being loved, and the flip-side for not being hated, and as the Jews said, when they received the Torah, “I WILL OBEY THE LIGHT!””
