0 responses to “Rabbi Goldman shared the story, that he once visited his illustrious grandfather in hospital and as he comes into the room, he see the Mashgiach (Rabbinical supervisor of the food) standing on his tippy-toes says “seven times” and he left – and then he sees his grandfather most distressed – “Ziady what did this man say, that stressed you out so much?” – “he just told me, he finished shas seven times.” (Shas is the Talmud which it could take an average person many years to study once.) “So what’s so bad about that?” asked the grandson? – “but what did shas teach him?” – in other words, wisdom which doesn’t impart transformative life shifts, is often not only not a gain; but as it can make one feel great that he finished shas seven times… it’s a terrible liability!”
