If we rely on our own wisdom, our Yetzer Hara (instinctual desires) will rationalize all excuses for doing what gives us pleasure, even God-forbid heinous acts (for do you not think that those people who do those acts don’t rationalize it – do they say, “I am planning on doing something bad?!”)

We supersede our ego and instincts, by thanking God continuously – for everything we receive when we receive it, e.g. saying the morning blessings for waking up etc. – and by asking a mashpia (Chassidic spiritual mentor and /or Rov(rabbi)) for what the objectively proper Divine way is to behave in a given matter! (based no his or her wisdom of the Torah.)
