Freud is noted for his discovery of a subconscious.

Imagine that, for millennia people were unaware that, for example, of your thoughts in a single moment, out of 400,000,000 bytes of data, you are only aware of 2000!

Pretend all of the data on your computer screen were shown to you at once – I mean all the data from your CPU, all the files, all the video, all the pictures – there is no way you could possibly input this information.

So you need to see just a tiny bit of reality, so you can see it.

But who is actually seeing it?

So the soul is your consciousness.

You are the observer who is observing life.

The information that comes to you and the choices you make, is who you are.

Lets get to know the inside conscious forces which you may not be conscious of, but form the subconscious stratum of existence.

Firstly divorced from the body, the soul is primarily two things, a desire for pleasure and a desire for no pain (animal’s entire lives are based on this simple pain / pleasure balance, as any person who doesn’t exercise their self discipline.)

Now, unlike an animal, you are independently aware of this system – if you want to be aware – awareness (watching yourself is a necessity before you can change.)

So you have an intelligence called the intellectual soul which is the observer – this observer can become aware of your pain and pleasures – now to make things far more complex, you also have Divine side in you which literally is God within you, and hence unlike the pain pleasure system, is perhaps the exact opposite; for this soul only desires truth, and of course truth is a direct opposite to pain and pleasure, for there, truth makes no difference.

This is why we are conflicted, and we ultimately must sacrifice the pain pleasure system, for truth, if we desire to be virtuous.
