You see the problem with fear is this – our minds are basically reactions – we can have rational thoughts, but never when we are afraid – for if we have fear, it is no different from a virus that overtakes the host – so when we are afraid, the mind has one, but one (in my classic style, yes, one but one!) thought – objective – purpose and that is prevention of fear!

Now the way the mind does this, is, it actually conjures up every single possible danger, for you can only fear danger, not safety.

So the mind that has fear is like the soldier in war – focused, waiting, bracing  – Freud calls it preparation anxiety – in fact you are preparing yourself for something anxious.

And this my dear friends is the fundamental problem of fear – for fear and you are enemies – for you are your hopes, your dreams, your aspirations!!!

Now imagine you want to buy your wife flowers, yet at the same time you are worried about God-forbid the mafia hounding you – you get the point.

In other words, as the Alter Rebbe clearly says – you cannot be in the state of fear and in the state of joy at the same time!

Study after study shows that fear is the progenitor of all physical and certainly mental ailments.

And there is only a single way to stop fear and that is to not have it, through trusting, as the Alter Rebbe teaches, everything that ever has, is or will occur to you, is the hand of God and though you may not comprehend how what is happening is good, all of us can have the wisdom to trust that as it comes from God, it is in our best interest, much like a father who loves his son would only only only help his son, though of course the son often cannot understand why.
