Yesterday I got a gift – not sure how much I wanted it, but given from love, I accepted it humbly – goat cheese; as I am supervising the production of kosher goat cheese- I noticed that the gift I got, was vacuum sealed – why are things vacuumed sealed? you see the bacteria needs oxygen; starve it, it cannot replicate – there are two ways in dealing with bacteria / evil, one is starve it, this was called the way of mussar, break the evil, effectively, a person becomes so frightened, that they become sealed, like becoming a robot; they will never do anything wrong (we need not mention how often this mechanism is used by certain religions, as I heard a priest once said “give me a child till the age of five and I will put such a fear of hell in him, he will never stray from Catholicism”) but then, there is how our body deals with bacteria – its absolutely fascinating, for our immune system constantly, always, repeatedly, indefinitely is killing bacteria – our white blood cells are always spotting negative viruses or bad bacteria and eliminating them – in other words, the approach that “I must section myself off from the world, have nothing to do with the evil” may work; but not only is it suffocating – you cannot change anyone, including yourself, through it – but to walk humbly with God, for God has infinite wisdom, and every challenge that will come your way, if you submit to his directions in life, will not only be overcome; you will eventually develop immunity to it!
