Yep another wow moment

Someone – a real mystic once told me – one of the greatest gifts God can give you, is an insight that incorporates all of Judaism.

Any insight that is a theory that unites and sheds light on many divergent parts is an insight worth cherishing.

The insight thank God I realized is that if we can divide the world into Rome and Jerusalem, western ambitions and Jewish ambition, a surprisingly simple all encompassing difference which can be applied to one’s future with astounding precision emerges.

All of western glory etc. was based  on a single premise, “if I can, I should.”

“If I can build a taller building, I should.”

“If I can create a better technologically advanced computer I should.”

“If I can go to mars, I should.”

This “if I can, I should” is the ultimate in stupidity, for it glorifies style instead of substance, fame instead of happiness, pride over unity.

The Jewish thinking is very very simple, what is the purpose? the meaning? the goodness behind anything?

For example, when the world was going crazy to go to the moon, the Rebbe said, “they wont find much there.”

When Rome was expanding her empire, conquering country after country, through better catapults, the Jews were delving into the intricacies of God’s mind, discerning correct and incorrect behavior.

So instead of seeking fame, wizardry and new frontiers, perhaps what we really need to do, is ask ourselves: what is the meaning, the purpose of life itself, and ignore everything, but use anything, to serve this higher cause.
