without motive there is no movement – a rock has no motive, even your computer… – it is only when you turn it on… – so if you understand all the motives, you understand every single thought, speech and action, that ever was, is and will be! – all motives stem as the Alter Rebbe teaches, from either love (a desire for something or someone or to something or someone) or fear (the desire to protect oneself from something one believes may be harmful, whether that is to their body, their dignity, their loved ones – so if this is the case, we need to understand where evil comes from – ideally if all everyone (and everything wants) is to fulfill their love (desire) and to protect themselves from hurt, where does hurting come from?? – so behind all drives (love and fear) is another instinct, and that is grandiosity – in essence, the child who is born has a delusion of grandeur (this in fact is critically important, for we find – unfortunately children neglected in Romanian orphanages, literally are like zombies : ( This grandiosity is an illusion of our power – it causes a fundamental narcissism – a self-love (this is why someone who is depressed which is someone who (subconsciously) hates themselves (for just as you can hate another who say has shamed you, you can hate yourself : (- for to the extent that we expect A. (say to get our way…) is the extent that we will hate (resent) B. that prevents us…. (so when we blame ourselves… – this is why a depressed person who loses self-love (as self-hate is the antidote to self-love) loses all their desires – so we see this fundamental delusion can be very vicious – it is exactly like fire – though fire can drive your car and is necessary for all motion, nonetheless when it is out of control, it is highly destructive – as such, the only solution is to merge your fire with God – for when you allow your identity to be God, then your actions will be as beautiful, as kind, as noble, as selfless
