Why would a good God create darkness?

We must understand – as explained in Tanya – that there are four spiritual universes above us

Darkness is the source of evil, for in essence, darkness is the lack of knowledge

Knowledge is the truth

Truth is that all is like a computer program

Only when this is not perceived – when we perceive ourselves as independent beings, can man go against the program that created him, and do evil.

There must be a very profound reason why God would create us in the darkness, not in the four spiritual (one more revealing of light / truth, hence complete submission to the love and ethics of G-d) worlds, above ours!

The answer teaches Chassidus, is that there are two kinds of lights:

There is the light that preceded darkness and then there is the light which is revealed because of the darkness!

In other words:

This can be seen spiritually in human psychology / emotions / behavior.

For example – who loves the parent more, the child who knows the parent, or the child who doesn’t?

You may think, that children who know their parents from birth, love their parents more; but in truth they take them very much for granted.

However, we find, orphans, literally turn the world upside down to discover their parents, for feeling keenly the lack of a parent, their desire is intensified.

Similarly you may think, that those souls and angels in heaven desire God.

But the truth is, those who like the parched man in the desert searching for water, lived in the desert of our modern society, seeking some kind of light, are those who desire God far more!
