Why work

By zevi770 · February 21, 2012

If God is infinite why should we work?

I don’t mean work for a living but rather work for God.

The truth is, it makes no sense.

If God wants to change the world, he can do so instantaneously.

To understand this we need to understand a fundamental misconception.

When was man first told to work?

Man was placed in the Garden of Eden lavdah, to tend the garden.

Now if God had the capacity to create something out of the sheer nothingness that preceded it, did he really need man’s gardening skills.

Why does he need man in the first place?

To answer this, it is best to get into the closest a human can comprehend of God.

Namely, the view of a parent to a child.

This is the one time we can act Godly.

O.k., so why do I need a child in the first place?

No one needs a child, but everyone wants one!

Fair enough.

Now do you want your child to work?

Yes.

Do you need him to work? No.

So here we see God’s plan.

For if God were to just give us all unlimited Visas, MasterCard’s and American Express’s, then like in the Bee Movie, life would cease to have meaning.

So the next time you say, why work, say to yourself…

I have been given the mission to tend God’s garden.
