Why we are so enamored with business

The world sees business as something sexy
People have given up everything not for the foundation of business, namely to make money but for the very honor to be in the business world.
Why are we so enamored with business?
Perhaps I may be totally off the wall but here is a theory I came up with.
Today I thank God si had the opportunity to give a Shiur to some wealthy businessmen and it was so insightful to see how this individual owning many successful companies tells me that his only happiness is studying Torah.
What a role reversal?!
As a young man growing up in the Torah Yeshivah world I was always impressed by the business world while the business man CEO of many successful companies tells me his greatest wish would be to leave business and go to Yeshivah.
In fact here in South Africa there was a very prosperous business man by the name of Leon Medalie, his four sons and daughter all became religious, on his deathbed – his grandchild Mendel relates – he was asked what regrets do you have – and the questioner asked about some very important opportunities to fund enormously successful companies which would have increased his wealth manifold which he like all businessmen sometimes skipped.
I regret that I didn’t learn when I was younger, he replied (for trying to learn Gemarah etc. when one is older they say is like writing on a paper that has already been written upon and subsequently erased.)
So what’s up?
The answer is very simple indeed.
