Why was Josef Punished

It seems to make no sense – doesn’t God himself teach us, we must do something to help ourselves?!
The answer is it depends.
If God tells you “go here and there you will be helped” he is not asking you to help yourself.
There are times to help yourself and that’s how God will help.
But the Rebbe explains, Josef entered into the Divine mode of Sovev, the infinity of God within this world – when a person enters into the infinite zone – God doesn’t help you when you help yourself.
