Why happiness creates happiness

One of the profound vorts (Jewish teachings, I heard) was from my cousin Dovid, actually via someone from him, that the reason we need to be happy is because when we are not happy, by nature, a person doesn’t want to be unhappy, so then we try quick fixes, drugs, sex, and rock-n-roll, to alleviate our unhappiness.
The cycle of happiness thus is simple, if you are happy – grateful for what you do have, not focused on what you don’t – then you will constantly be happy.
Al the research bears this out, and nothing is more evident then the people you meet who having been very close to death God-forbid, are happy with the very same lives that did not give them happiness before.
The more we have, ironically, the less happier we get, for it just whets our appetite to desire more, while the less we expect, the more we are satisfied with what we have.
So if we substitute the word happiness for content, I think we have a simple true definition of happiness.
