Why even the greatest heart needs an objective head!

By zevi770 · July 23, 2013

The way God made us, we have three rulers – dominant masters of our thoughts, speech and actions!

The first, and ideally, is the mind – logical rational decisions.

But as we know, we mostly are under the dominance of the heart, our emotion’s desires.

And worst of all, man has an ego, a desire for supremacy among men : (

Now, ideally, our mind could function without our desires or ego, but practically, our desires and ego alter our opinion!

Hence, when we want to do something, whether because it will give us pleasure or status, we rationalize it, so even though we might clearly tell others and truly see what’s good and bad for them, when it comes to ourselves, we get blinded! which is why precious few of us actually behave how we believe others should!

So the solution to this conundrum was taught by the Rebbe, as the Mishnah teaches – “make a master for yourself” in other words, find – available on “ask the rabbi” in chabad.org – a chassidic spiritual mentor, whom instead of deciding right and wrong for yourself ask – and follow God’s advice for you! Undistorted, through the prism of our selfish desires and EVIL EGO!
