Why

Of course what makes us unique is our minds, as the famous adage (which may or may not be true, just bringing out the point) “I think, therefore I am.”

So let’s think for a moment:

Why?

Why did God create us?

Why did God command us?

The Rebbe Rashab, who uniquely categorized Jewish mysticism – a feat which is beyond human comprehension – explains, that the point behind the commandments, as Judaism teaches, is the refinement of man – which takes place precisely, as one instinctually is inclined to just do whatever one instinctually feels like, and yet one suppresses their ego, their irrational senseless pursuits, for a higher notion, that of listening to the wisdom of the Creator!

This gives the Creator great joy; just like when a human parent senses their child doing the same – it gives us immense joy to see the progress, the transformation, the growth from child to maturity, from a little animal, to a great angel!
