Whose driving your car

Unbeknown to us there are three possible drivers of our car
Our body in the Tanya model, consists of a conscious and subconscious
The conscious is our thoughts, speech and actions.
But what causes you to think say and do what you think say and do?
The answer is very important
Our assumption of course is “I am thinking”
Is a child thinking?
Does a child have the ability when he is throwing a tantrum over not getting a candy to thing rationally?
So just because you are thinking speaking and doing – does it mean that you chose it?
In fact it is entirely perfectly normal for a person to never once have a conscious thought.
There hasn’t been a single – from the many many billions – of animals that consciously thought anything.
Though many of them are highly intelligent such as monkeys, dolphins etc. all of their thoughts are driven by their emotional needs and not one of them has ever advanced his race one bit.
In fact most people do not think at all.
So lets get back to the point – if you do not think – as the statement goes “I think therefore I am” (or something like that – so if you do no think and consciously choose your behavior, in fact, it is not you who is talking in your head, for you did not choose to say those words.
Nowhere is this more evident than when we get angry. The torrent of words that spill forth like a dam that bursts is ramparts is something that astonishes even the person who is talking.
According to the Tanya – hence the truth – there are two possible drivers, the first is the unconscious one, namely our instincts.
In fact, our instincts have the better ability to drive us, as they are what we are born into and only at Bar or Bas Mitzvah are we really in a position to start thinking our way through life.
The other is our mind, our Divine soul lodged in our mind that has the ability to discern right from wrong.
