Whereas religious people, particularly as a Jew I can say we have infinite reverence for the past, we see our greatest heroes as people who lived thousands of years ago, not based on some type of flimsy hero worship, but on the fact that their intelligence, their saintliness, their Godliness, their sacrifice, their humanness, their infinite ability to give unstintingly, is a source of inspiration, and therefore – and this is the Crux – because we have a past, we also have a present, and we also have a future! Woe to those fools who think they are clever by overthrowing their past, for they have no present, and unfortunately statistically they are actually going to die out
