1. Now the serpent was cunning, more than all the beasts in the field that the Lord God had made, and it said to the woman, “Did God indeed say, ‘You shall not eat of any of the trees of the garden?'” א. וְהַנָּחָשׁ הָיָה עָרוּם מִכֹּל חַיַּת הַשָּׂדֶה אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה יְ־הֹוָ־ה אֱ־לֹהִים וַיֹּאמֶר אֶל הָאִשָּׁה אַף כִּי אָמַר אֱ־לֹהִים לֹא תֹאכְלוּ מִכֹּל עֵץ הַגָּן: 2. And the woman said to the serpent, “Of the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat. ב. וַתֹּאמֶר הָאִשָּׁה אֶל הַנָּחָשׁ מִפְּרִי עֵץ הַגָּן נֹאכֵל: 3. But of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, God said, “You shall not eat of it, and you shall not touch it, lest you die.'” ג. וּמִפְּרִי הָעֵץ אֲשֶׁר בְּתוֹךְ הַגָּן אָמַר אֱ־לֹהִים לֹא תֹאכְלוּ מִמֶּנּוּ וְלֹא תִגְּעוּ בּוֹ פֶּן תְּמֻתוּן: 4. And the serpent said to the woman, “You will surely not die. ד. וַיֹּאמֶר הַנָּחָשׁ אֶל הָאִשָּׁה לֹא מוֹת תְּמֻתוּן: 5. For God knows that on the day that you eat thereof, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like angels, knowing good and evil.” ה. כִּי יֹדֵעַ אֱ־לֹהִים כִּי בְּיוֹם אֲכָלְכֶם מִמֶּנּוּ וְנִפְקְחוּ עֵינֵיכֶם וִהְיִיתֶם כֵּאלֹהִים יֹדְעֵי טוֹב וָרָע:
In other words, the serpent used the most basic of all conman tactics – your current position is no good – but if you follow me everything will be good!
Adam and Eve believing the snake and forgetting that if God tells you something that is what is good and every piece of wisdom contrary to God’s advice is what is obviously bad for you, no different then if your doctor gives you advice, so every contrary layperson’s opinion on not to take that medicine, not to exercise – disregarding the doctors advice – can only due you untold harm, hence this cunningness has gone on for too long…
