What is wrong with our western attitude of “if it gives me pleasure, it is my right?!” – the answer is, that, as the Zohar teaches us, as the Rebbe teaches, the more your follow your instinctual desires, the less “space” you have to follow your holy altruistic ones! – like a seesaw: if your goal, is, sex, money, pleasure, fame etc. etc. there is precious little space in your tiny heart to also be passionate about saving the world, becoming a better person etc. etc. So the goal of life, is, to realize, you can’t have your cake and eat it too! in life, we are forced to choose “do I want my life to be, no better than an intelligent animal, or do I want to sacrifice my animal urges on the altar of goodness and kindness?!” and to date there has never been – nor will there ever be – a person who has had their cake, and eaten it!
