What if you were… No, who you are?

By zevi770 · February 14, 2012

Who are you?

Most of us think, well, we are our desires – are you your desires?

If you are your desires, how come your desires change.

Well, how about our opinions – the truth is the main identity of a person is not their desires for desires are like fluff – you know that bit that gets stuck in the belly-button, it comes and goes, and somehow you just seem to pick up more.

Rather it’s our opinions that constitute who we are.

Are our opinions and desires consistent.

No, – what did you answer?

Of course not!

Desires, are simply as our sages state, the eyes sees something desirable, and the heart thinking that it will get pleasure from it, desires it.

Desires can also be holy such as goodness, mercy, compassion, but even those are not who we are, rather desires that we contain.

Rather the essence of who we are of course is God himself for everything, especially our souls, is God.

But ultimately, we are the beliefs that we have.

What makes someone a Christian or a Buddhist an atheist, a doctor or even a lawyer, the belief system that they have, that truth operates in a certain function.

So to get to know yourself, ask yourself, what are my opinions.
