What bonds humans? – I was thinking about it – today – literally, I had this experience as well, today – computers can talk to us – there are articles that are written by computers – it is feasible that with all the work on artificial intelligence, soon computers will be not only mathematically wiser than people, but make the inherent associations that make our minds work – But there is a single thing a computer will never be able to do – and this is the true definition of a human and that is to FEEL – so this may sound a bit bizarre, but it is behind all the good and evil, all the love and hate in this world – in order to feel another, a person must be able to feel themselves! – now you may say – of-course a person can feel themselves?! but if that were the case, would a person God-forbid torture, rape, maliciously demean another?! – rather the truth is, that as studies show, psychopaths who are otherwise just as intelligent as everyone else, lack one thing, the ability to feel – for example, tests have been done and when words that normally people would feel negative about, say: fear, cancer, death, they register emotionless – In other words, many are the people who have shut off (obviously subconsciously) the connecting tissue between their emotional side and their brain – In effect, these people are computers – some may be smart, others not – they are obviously aware of their pain or pleasure, but they have no human sensation – they have lost love for their own existence – they are in the words of one psychologist, in masked-depression – a depressed person obviously feels less emotions, but if depression went to the extreme, for effectively depression is the ego turning on the identity (hate of one’s behavior which led to shame etc.) it can actually annihilate the identity – once a person lacks an identity, they can have neither pride nor shame, hence, if I love myself, what am I loving – effectively I must be proud of myself; but if I have lost any sense of self, I can neither be proud and likewise cannot feel shame.
