We must ask a question: why is it that people put up with abuse? – for not centuries, but millennia, people allowed kings to wholesale abuse the people – not only that, the Jewish people of ancient Israel actually asked Samuel the prophet to give them a king, completely ignoring his warning, that the king will simply abuse them – I think we have a secret obsession with power – yes, we may be democratic, yes, we may abhor abuse, but somehow, we watch mafia movies like they are going out of style, heck, every single movie (made for men at least) is only about power – to paraphrase the bad joke (which came out of the space shuttle challengers tragic explosion) our obsession with power is similar to the last question on the space shuttle Columbia: “what does this button do?”
