We all have an ego – and I think a good example for it, is from food – none of us want to feel hungry, likewise none of us want to feel despised, demeaned, demolished; conversely, we all like the “high” that comes from have a filled belly – sort of like a good sensation – likewise, we all would like to be able to strut a bit, feel proud, perhaps even superior – this is a natural instinct – but just like the Rambam (a medical doctor) teaches, “one should only eat two-thirds their fill” – in other words, always remain a bit hungry, similarly, “Yes we shouldn’t feel bad about ourselves, but simultaneously, we should never be full of ourselves.”
