The Previous Rebbe taught a most most most important teaching – we must always be cognizant of the voices that speak to us – we are comprised of three souls, hence three voices! our animal soul is fear over survival, fear over pain and drives us towards instinctive pleasures, “let’s have sex” is the animal soul, as is “let’s save every penny because tomorrow I may not have food” – the intellectual soul seeks congruency and order, so my behavior must match my ideals – which is why we feel guilty when they don’t, is the intellectual soul speaking – But the ultimate is our Divine soul, which is compassion, so “I need to help that person,” selflessness, altruism, is the voice we need to listen to!
