Understanding the role of identity

Identity, who am I, plays a very important role in humanity
For example, I love the question, Rabbi, what do we believe?
In other words, I am a Jew, so tell me what to believe
The question of course should be, Rabbi what is the truth?
How can we believe something based on our identity?
To understand this is to understand well just about everything.
You see, identity relates to the unique human need for security.
A child creates an identification with his parents as this ensures his survival (in his childish perception of reality.)
An employee creates an identification with his boss, as this will ensure his survival (in his adult childish mind.)
The truth is there is only one person we need to identify with, and he aint even real (or at least tangible) namely, God.
God and his messenger the Rebbe in every generation is the only source of all our spiritual and of course physical needs (as all of God’s blessings as the Kabbalah teaches us, flow through the Tzaddik of the generation’s soul.)
