Ultimately we are like a vessel, a container, a device, hardware; inside this hardware, like on a computer can be multiple programs, the thing to remember is this, each program has full access (to our thoughts which become our speech and actions) so unless we gain mastery over our thoughts – which first and foremost comes about by being aware of them (for you can hardly master what you don’t even see) then discerning which thoughts are positive and which are negative (eventually discerning which seems to be positive but are really negative and which seem to be negative but are really positive) we are at the mercy of the programs which are ego, the desire to be better than others (and its corollary, to not be worse than others, hence evil, for when someone – subconsciously – believes they are worse than others, they do what they can to try to make the others worse, hence bullying, antisemitism, current anti-Americanism) lust for all that gives pleasure (and its corollary, fear from all that – or whom – may give pain – which is obviously a pretty bad way to live – which we overcome by trusting that all that occurs really comes from a loving God) and finally on the positive side, our Divine soul: the love, compassion, bravery, courage etc. etc.
