True premises -everything depends on the premise – for example, if someone thinks they’re “worthless” or “God;” so will they behave (depressed or arrogant.) the same is true of civilization, if people believe in God versus say democracy (though they are not mutually exclusive however generally the drive in the former is to what God would want and in the latter toward what anyone.) there is a fascinating teaching of the Alter Rebbe (the author of the Bible of Jewish mysticism) that just as there are various different pleasures… so there is a pineapple, an apple, peaches etc. so to God has many pleasures – so if everything is a result of God’s desire (for the ensuing pleasure) every premise becomes clear: 1. the primary desire God has is what is called identification – in fact any normal person who has a decent self-esteem identifies – values another – it is this value for us (as it states, “we arose in God’s image” – God, as, past and present are equal to him, saw us; hence identified with us, and therefore from a place of loving-respect desires to bestow) 2. now what God receives pleasure from, of course is giving (as any healthy person does) so what he gave us is the ability to make our lives meaningful (to do this, life has to be complicated, for if there is one road, it is no accomplishment, so precisely by having alternative routes, roughly summed up into the desires of the body versus the soul; in this way when you go beyond your raw instincts and do something good this will give you, hence God, a great pleasure) 3. finally another beautiful benefit is unity
