In our generation of course this is Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneersohn The Lubavitcher Rebbe
But why?
Couldn’t God give us energy directly? Why the need for an intermediary?
Well, when we look at Mosses, we are taught he was half God / half Man!
In other words, in order for us to have role models to allow us to see a truth which the darkness of exile conceals, like a person languishing eternally in a dungeon, in order to believe there is a world beyond, a beautiful garden of pleasures so exquisite that all of the pleasures fed to us prisoners in the dungeons are insignificant in comparison, there needs to be a man who though he lives in the dungeon he doesn’t!
In other words, all of us intrinsically are God – however, our souls get concealed in the serpents body (our body) concealing the truth of, “all is God including us” – hence, in every generation, one man is born to a body that appears like ours but is totally spirit and his soul descends not; for his body conceals not and his soul is as aware of this truth – all is God – as it was before the descent!
