To be or not to be a Benoinie

By zevi770 · August 26, 2013

One of the conflicting statements in the Tanya is that a Benoinie – the “ultimate” state of mans dedication to God whereby s/he is in control of all of his thoughts speech and actions – must be a perpetual one; and that one should strive to become a Benoinie

Perhaps the resolution of this is as follows:

Though whom of us can claim such a level, the ultimate goal is truly to attain it, but often we are delusional, we are good today and think we are good forever – No, teaches the Alter Rebbe, to be a Benoinie means, you are at a level of goodness and dedication which is so full of conviction that even tomorrow, next year, in a decade, you still will be at this same dedicated level!
