Three possible directions man takes, the first is, we are born into instinctual desire, which is succinctly put, pleasure and fear of pain; and together with that, we have a mind, and a person, as many people do, particularly scientists, become curious and simply dedicate their life not only for their instinctual pleasure and fear of pain, also to intellectual pursuits; for both instincts and intellectual pursuits are fundamentally selfish, because they relate to “my desire;” but ultimately, the highest level, what truly gives us happiness, is meaning in life; and meaning in life is ignoring pleasure, ignoring pain, even intellectual curiosity, and simply dedicating your life to selfless, goodness and kindness!
