Three conflicting operating systems run us

By zevi770 · November 13, 2013

The highest as Kabbalah teaches, is using our mind to discern between right and wrong – ideally as our mind itself is swayed by the two lower operating systems, we must actually use God’s mind, which as Kabbalah teaches, we access, through appointing a Chassidic spiritual mentor to advise us (this is called a Mashpia – however if you don’t know of any, feel free to go to the “Ask A Rabbi” section, on Chabad.org)

Below that, we have what’s called the heart – this is just like animals have, a pain/pleasure system – we are attracted to pleasure, we retract from pain (which is why, for example, giving up a bad habit, like smoking, or eating unhealthy foods, is so hard for us, as our minds are not stronger than our instincts.)

And worst of all, we have an ego (liver) which is a pride/shame system – now, though it is laudatory to feel proud of yourself for good accomplishments, it is reprehensible to ever feel better than anyone else.
