though it is especially painful to consider this it is even far worse to not – it is obvious there is a God, but it is also obvious that the ways of doing His will are so confused that there are literally millions of different ideas – Today we see people who genuinely believe that rape, torture and murder with no compassion is God’s will – The subtle difference in understanding, many based on subconscious anthropomorphizing (comparing God to a human and hence deducing his will would be similar to humans) are obviously gross distortions – so we must begin with the basic premise that it is obvious that no human can fathom a desire of a being which isn’t a human – Hence the only direct access we have is the Bible – together with the Bible comes Jewish mysticism which goes far deeper into the absolute purpose of the Bible and even deeper than that, for just reading both can leave one pretty perplexed, is the Mosses of the generation who was given a Divine clarity – And there was no one who perhaps had better clarity in all of Jewish history then the Rebbe – And the bottom line is this, the Bible was given as our sages teach “to increase peace in the world” – – so you can say, “why do you need it for for that?” – well the facts are, we humans all desire peace but it is not our only desire! – we have anger when we feel unjustifiably lowered, we have lust etc. etc. – but the way we work is, our primary desire always manages to banish our other desires – So if we were angels we wouldn’t need the Bible – in fact when Mosses went up to heaven to receive the Torah, the angels said to God, “you have this awesome treasure and you will give it to people” (in other words, what on earth are you thinking?) so God told Mosses to answer them – he said “what does it say in the Bible, ‘do not steal’ – ‘do you guys have jealousy’ – ‘honor your father and mother’ ‘do you have fathers and mothers?’”- etc. etc. – in other words, the Bible was given to help man elevate oneself out of the instincts desires and into our higher desire – but ultimately it only works on the premise that “without God I can – and all of history considered – will become a sick person”
