There are really but three possibilities: either I like (love) myself – or I despise myself (based on shame, which I decide, so for example I wish I didn’t do something…) or I hate myself – now hate is a fascinating subject – for hate is the ego that wishes to take revenge – so we can understand someone loving themselves (as they think they did good – caused themselves pleasure) or despising themselves (caused themselves lack – this is why depression comes to people when they feel trapped – as their expectation of themselves – that they can care for themselves turns into self-shame) but why would anyone wish to destroy themselves? (we find there are diseases of masochism) and I believe the answer to this is very deep and important – you see we tend to form our identities around two central pillars – a. association (hence a male will form identities visa-via other; as well as females; and to the extent that I have say a nationality or religion likewise (the identity or I identify with some of my “group”) the second is role models – and as the ego is a primary former of identity, so hence whoever seems to have power (for the ego has no rationality hence morality, only this desire) we begin to imitate the desires of the person with power (this is why since Obama we see so much what Chassidus calls chitzonios, in modern lingo peackocking (posturing))
