There are actions, now every action is preceded by an emotion – we don’t eat unless we are either hungry, feel down (comfort food) perhaps bored, maybe compelled (you will finish that soup …) so if we do something, there must be an emotional benefit to us – but what’s more interesting in a way, is, what causes the emotions? – and obviously the answer is benefit – we think that there will be some kind of payoff for us in this action – but then, the even deeper question is, who are we? For we have three operating systems in us: are we looking for our soul’s benefit? are we looking for our animal’s (instinctual pain/pleasure) benefit? are we looking for our ego’s benefit (shame/name) benefit? – O.k. what would be in truth the real benefit? – In truth, we are not our ego – imagine after 120 in the grave, when there is no name left to uphold anyway! – We are not our instincts (pleasure/pain) benefit, again imagine after 120 when there are no biological chemically induced pleasure nor pain sensations! So what we truly are, is our soul, pure goodness and kindness! – and doesn’t that change the equation as to what truly is or isn’t beneficial to us!
