The way to tell when harming someone is good (say a surgeon cutting off a gangrenous limb) and when helping someone, is not motivated by self agrandization, rather love – is that in both cases, there is a preceding compassion! – and conversely, the way to tell when harming someone is bad, and when helping someone is motivated by self agrandization, not love – is if there is a lack of compassion!
