The Voice Of Truth

Imagine hundreds of radios stations, television channels, cable shows all simultaneously sending you messages.

Life is like that

We are bombarded on an average day with over 4000 different advertisements, never mind the amount of info. our poor eyes, ears, brain has to digest on a given day.

The point is which station is true?

None of the above

Well like most people you guessed right.

Every channel that has an agenda – namely to make money – doesn’t care if their stories are true, for their agenda is only to sell; advertisers don’t care if their products help or destroy (cigarettes for example) for their agenda is to sell; cable shows don’t have your interest in mind for their shows are to appeal to our baser instincts of fear, drama, lust etc. so they can make money.

All things begin and end in their motive, as our sages teach us, there two types of loves real love and conditional love.

When you are approached by a marketer he does so in the hope that he can sell to you.

True love is when without any profit motive, a person likes you for they see themselves in you, say your fellow Jew, your fellow citizen etc. etc.

So where oh where can we hear truth?

Who has an unconditional love coupled with a voice of truth that will share the secrets of creation?

Where oh where can we unravel the complexities behind the very purpose of existence?

And perhaps most importantly who knows the truth in the first place?

Ironically the voice of truth is simply God’s communication to us.

However we often make a fundamental error in how we suppose such communication would be.

We imagine like Mount Sinai and the Ten Commandments a multi media presentation of thunder, of lighting, of smoke and of a Shofar sound scaring the living daylights out of us – all should precede God’s voice!

Yet another story of God’s communication is with Elijah the prophet that though earthquake split a mountain and a fire arose, God was not there, rather in a still small voice later heard.

In other words, God is quite simply like your average friend who speaks to you, not at you; who advises does not cajole; who like a mother trying to teach her daughter sweetly gives advice but cares not if you reject it rather cares only for your best interest namely that you accept it.
