Either (to paraphrase Einstein) Everything is 100% God or is 0% God – assuming matter cannot appear out of non-matter; cannot organize itself; cannot spark randomly into life; it means everything is 100% God – so the question is, why the darkness? – the answer is very simple indeed – if all that existed was light, you wouldn’t exist (for example, if you light a candle in the sunlight, it contributes nothing) for you and I to exist, the world had to mainly conceal God (through the trick of repetitive miracles, alternatively called nature) this concealment doesn’t actually mean God doesn’t exist, only that he is not apparent – however, when the darkness becomes boring enough, when the predilections become tiresome, when the inner light begins to search for outer light, then and only then does the mask come off
