The truth is that gratitude beats envy, the question is why?

By zevi770 · July 13, 2012

It is a fact – in fact practiced in psychology which doesn’t make it a fact, but you can try it and see that it works, you can’t be grateful and upset at the same time.

The question can be asked, why?

Well without offending the great minds I asked, I believe – also sort of what I understood from the Rebbe (from a mammer) the reason why, is as follows.

The reason we get upset is because we have an ego.

This is why in the analogy of fire, the part of the soul that gets angry and has arrogance, the two are interrelated; for the person who is completely humble (thinks he is a nothing) wouldn’t get angry even if you spit at him, because he already thinks he is nothing.

However, if a person thinks that he is something (which we all do to a certain extent) than we become offended if we get offended, if there was no reason for the offence.

So anger is based on arrogance.

When a person says thank you, they are admitting to a higher power which is in control of life.

This very act of admitting to a greater power immediately lowers their subconscious assumption of their own power.
