Inspiration for life

The things that really bug me about psychology, is, similar to the statement of the previous Rebbe, that certain groups tend to find a single truth and make that the sum total of truth – when one looks at the incredible array of therapy techniques, of theories etc. etc. one sees, that in effect that it’s the reality – but life needs a master-key and only in the wisdom of Chassidus/Kabbalah do I find a mechanism through which we enter into the chambers of the psyche to understand the person as whole, divorced from individual facets, which though you may understand one room, you fail to perceive the whole house, leaving perhaps a healed arm but a broken body

So if I had to describe the wisdom of Kabbalah/Chassidus in a master key level:

The first thing is to rid ourselves of the delusion that life is meant to be good

Life is meant to be a sever constant challenge

And challenges are good

For without a challenge, we could not overcome

Without overcoming, not only can we not grow, we cannot feel accomplished

Without feeling accomplished, not only are we not accomplished, we cannot feel proud of ourselves

In other words, we must firstly not judge another, nor ourselves! for having shortcomings

Shortcoming are our opportunities!

Now generally speaking, there are three realities:

There is the rational mind

There is the emotional heart: love/fear

And then there is our true problem, namely, ego

Let’s begin from top to bottom:

The mind must learn how to overpower the emotions

To do so, we must learn self–discipline

Our instinctive world is the world we are born into

The mind only really starts to think independently around the age of six and then our ability to overpower our instincts only comes around the age of 12 / 13 (girls being more mature and hence able to overpower their instincts at the younger age of twelve)

Secondly, we must understand that our thoughts are intrinsically tied into our ego

Our ego feels, right.

That’s the nature of our ego.

To be right is no sin, but to be righter than another, is!
