The sum total of truth is that obviously we are a consciousness – if you’re not conscious, you cannot assume that you are – never mind having no perception neither of yourself or anything – now consciousness can manifest effectively the instinctual desires – which is as the Alter Rebbe teaches, mainly based on earth, fire, air, water as well as some positive – but the flip side is that sometimes we can get into a state of Fear and anxiety which robs even the desires – and is also a primary cause of depression and suicide – so the ultimate is of-course – not what are instinctual desires z even though all of them have a time – rather what is the ultimate intention from The Creator – which is simply – that "I am created, to serve my Creator!" and when we all obey this – the world is redeemed
