The spiritual versus the physical grandchild

By zevi770 · January 10, 2014

To mimic Abraham, versus to be Abraham, now that is the question!

To paraphrase, the Alter Rebbe who called the Baal Shem Tov his spiritual grandfather, versus another well known leader, who was the Baal Shem Tov’s physical grandchild…

Similarly, the Jews and the Arabs are both the grandchildren of Abraham

Yet one is Abraham, the other only mimics Abraham.

We find an incredible trait that the Arabs inherited from Abraham, the trait of hospitality

A friend of mine just returned from Morocco – wherever you go, he said, the Arabs will invite you, very welcomingly, for tea

In fact, I believe, it is a Bedouin law that you must provide a wayfarer, three days hospitality, even be he your enemy

After that, you may kill him.

So how could the teacher of morality, have such immoral descendants?

For people, are in fact either wise or monkeys.

We either think deeply into life and follow our convictions, or we simply copy our role-models, but our innate instinctual tendencies, our egotistical ideals, has never changed; we have only incorporated ape like behavior, but fundamentally, we are not Abraham, we are an ape!
