The Rebbe says that everything (that’s my inflection) can be discerned between the difference of how Jews and secular people look at the word charity, for the Jewish word for charity is tzedakah which means righteousness – why would giving charity which is associated with magnanimity be called righteousness? – the answer is on how we view the world – if we see the world from a traditional ego perspective, so as it is a dog-eat-dog world; if I give charity, I have gone outside of a dog status to being a philanthropist – truly magnanimous ! – but if we view the world as a family, if I don’t give charity I am just a selfish good for nothing
